A registrant of the conference just asked a good question about finding the conference meetings at the St Regis. It is a different venue than we have had in the past and so I think it warrants a full response in this blog. Perhaps I will make a video tour of the check-in procedures and post in the next few weeks.

The Summit Conference Meetings are held in the Grand Ballroom of the St Regis which is along the left (southern) edge of Deer Valley Ski Resort. The hotel is actually up on the hill to the left so you have to valet park your car and ride the funicular up (It’s the trolley-looking car that runs from the resort to the lower check-in area.)

The check-in desk personnel will direct you to the funicular and give you directions to the meeting space. Once you have ridden the funicular up from the lower check-in area you will find the upper check-in desk that can provide further assistance if you happen to lose your bearings from the breathtaking views as you ride up the funicular. After crossing through the upper lobby, you descend a series of steps. At the base of the steps you will turn to the right to find the Grand Ballroom where the Conference Meetings will be held.

New Presenters Added to Agenda

This year’s speakers and presenters include:

Steven Walker – NACD – He is director of the Board Advisory Services, legal counsel, and corporate secretary of NACD. He has served on the boards of the Young Professionals of the American Cancer Society and Friends of Gusman Philharmonic. Previously, Mr. Walker worked in the financial services industry with Kidder Peabody & Co., and served as general counsel and senior executive to public, private, and nonprofit entities. In the government sector, he served as a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission attorney-advisor.
George Feiger – Contango Capital Management – Prior to Contango, Mr. Feiger served in a number of senior positions in the financial services sector. He was a senior advisor to the Monitor Group, Global Head of Onshore Private Banking for UBS, Global Head of Investment Banking at SBC Warburg and was a senior partner at McKinsey & Co. During his time in Europe, Mr. Feiger led the merger integration of the corporate finance businesses of Swiss Bank Corp. and SG Warburg, and oversaw the consolidation of SBC Warburg’s sales and trading businesses. Mr. Feiger was also a partner at Capco, a financial services consulting firm.Mr. Feiger holds a PhD in Economics from Harvard University and was an associate professor of Finance at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business.
Les Brorsen – Ernst & Young – He currently chairs the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Federal Legislative Task Force. He serves on advisory councils and steering committees for several members of Congress and is E&Y’s primary point of contact with various business and investor organizations including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Business Roundtable.
Joan Woodward – Travelers – Ms. Woodward joined Travelers in 2008 from Goldman, Sachs & Co., where she was the founding Executive Director of the company’s Global Markets Institute. During her nine years at Goldman Sachs, Ms. Woodward also served as Vice President and Director of Washington Research for Goldman Sachs’ Global Investment Research. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Ms. Woodward worked on Capitol Hill for 12 years, serving as Deputy Chief of Staff for the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance as well as Senior Economist for the U.S. Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs and the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on the Budget.

2009 Presenter – Bob Gay of Huntsman Gay Global Capital

The Summit Conference attracts speakers and presenters of the highest caliber. In 2009, Robert Gay Bob Gay of Huntsman Gay Global Capital of Huntsman Gay Global Capital, a billion dollar investment fund, spoke to Summit attendees. Mr. Gay’s bio is listed below:

Bio
Mr. Gay is a Managing Director, Cofounder, and the Chief Executive Officer of Huntsman Gay Global Capital. He is also a member of Huntsman Gay’s Policy and Investment Committee. Mr. Gay has been involved in the private equity business since 1986. From 1989 – 2004, he served as a Managing Director of Bain Capital. He was one of the firm’s senior partners and served as a member of its Management and Business Policy committees.

He also led many of the firm’s investments and oversaw Bain Capital Europe where he opened the firm’s London and Munich offices. Mr. Gay resigned as a full-time partner from Bain Capital when his church asked him to take a volunteer assignment as its Mission President for the countries of Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Liberia from July 2004 to July 2007.

Mr. Gay has actively been involved in humanitarian work all his business life. In 2001 he co-founded Unitus, a global micro-credit company, which is currently helping lift 9 million people across the world out of poverty. Unitus has been recognized world wide and for the last three years has received the prestigious Fast Company/Monitor Group Social Capitalist award naming it one of the top 45 social capital companies in the USA. Mr. Gay has also funded KOMART, a micro-credit organization serving West Africa. He is currently a Board member of three global charities: Right to Play, Forever Young, and Realizing the Dream.

Mr. Gay started in private equity when he joined GE Capital from McKinsey & Co. where he was an Engagement Manager. At GE he was Executive Vice President of the GECC Capital Markets group. He also formed and organized Sorenson Capital, a middlemarket private equity firm, and was a member of its Advisory Board. Mr. Gay graduated in 1982 with a Ph.D. in Business Economics from Harvard University where he also taught economics for two years. Mr. Gay graduated Phi Beta Kappa with an AB from the University of Utah.

2009 Panelists – D&O Liability Panel

Every year the Summit Conference hosts panels that discuss pressing issues that Directors and Officers are facing. D&O Liability Panel This particular panel discussed D&O Liability – Litigation, Insurance and Indemnification. The distinguished group of panelists included the following individuals:

The discussion centered around the WellCare meltdown and the resulting suits and problems stemming from the governance problems and subsequent bankruptcy.
